March 12, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
The Kachemak Nordic Ski Marathon is reborn this year. It will be held Saturday, March 12. Due to lack of snow at lower elevations, we will not use the traditional course ending at Baycrest. However there is plenty of snow at higher elevations, so our groomers will use the Lookout Trail system as the anchor for a modified marathon course. We are hoping to be able to groom a 20k loop around the Lookout area.
There will be 3 events: 20k tour; 20k race; and 40k race. The 20k tour starts at 9:30am. The races run concurrently starting at 10:30am with mass starts about 5 minutes (Homer time) apart.
Post Race Awards Party
The post race awards ceremony and party is planned for 5pm at the Ageya Wilderness Center. Stay tuned for further information about the post race party.
Note about refunds:
No refunds will be given for any reason, including race cancellation. All of the funds from the race go to KNSC for all of their activities, including trail work, grooming, and a variety of other activities which benefit trail users and skiers. Putting on the race involves a lot of costs, many of which are not recovered if the race is canceled. Refunding entry fees is not done by the other major American Ski Marathon races including those in Alaska.
Advance registration is available online until Thursday, March 10. Click here to begin the registration process. For advance mail-in registration, download the 2016 Marathon Registration Form. Adult cost for advanced registration is $35 for KNSC members and $45 for non-members. Children age 17 and under can register for the 20k race or tour for $20. Day of race registration will be available from 9am to 10:15am at Lookout Mountain. There is an additional $10 cost for day of race registration.
