2008 Sea to Ski Information
SEA TO SKI TRIATHLON – MARCH 30, 2008
The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club and Homer Saw and Cycle will host the Sea to Ski Triathlon on SUNDAY, March 30, starting at Mariner Park at the base of the Spit.
Registration will be from 10 am to 12 noon at the Gazebo at Mariner Park, on race day. There will be a $10 entry fee for students and $15 fee for adults and an additional $5 late fee after 12 noon. All participants will be required to sign a waiver. MINORS WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A PARENT SIGN THE WAIVER FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE. Bicyclists will be required to wear helmets. There will be a REQUIRED race meeting at 12:30 to go over safety rules and the race will start at 1:00.
The course will consist of a 5 km (3 mi) run from Mariner Park to West Homer Elementary; a 7 km (4 mi) mountain bike ride from West Homer Elementary up West Hill, across Highland and Sprucewood Drives to the Roger’s Loop trail head; and a 5 km (3 mi) ski route which will depend upon the snow conditions. Tentatively the ski leg will end at the Sterling Highway trail head near the DOT station. Distances are approximate. Chief of Course (Dave Brann) reserves the right to modify the last leg depending upon snow conditions.
Teams will consist of three members or the complete course can be done by one individual (APRIL FOOL STYLE). An individual can not also be on a team. An awards ceremony will be held at 3 PM. Sand dollar medallions will be awarded to the top three teams and to the top three ironmen and ironwomen. Prizes will be awarded by draw from waiver slips for all participants and volunteers who are present at 3 PM.
Team and individual categories for men and women will be: middle school grades 7 & 8, high school grades 9-12, young adults to age 29, adults 30-49, and incredible adults 50 and over. There will be an open team category for same gender - mixed age group or mixed gender teams.
